Extortion by Ransomware

Bleeping Computer reports that the operators of the "DoppelPaymer" Ransomware have launched a public site to post private data from victims who do not comply with a ransom demand. The extortion method is to steal files before encrypting them and then use them - as well as the promise of a decryption key - as leverage to get victims to pay ransom. According to Bleeping Computer, if a ransom is not paid, then the ransomware operators release the stolen files on the public site to expose the victim to government enforcement action, lawsuits, and general embarrassment. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/doppelpaymer-ransomware-launches-site-to-post-victims-data/
